Global climate change is having a significant impact on biodiversity around the world. As Earth’s average temperature increases, flora and fauna species face major challenges in maintaining their habitats. One of the most obvious impacts is a shift in species distribution. Many species are starting to move towards cooler areas, such as the mountains or the north, in search of more suitable conditions. This changes local ecosystems and disrupts relationships between predators and prey as well as interactions between species. In addition to distribution shifts, climate change also affects the timing and life cycles of species. For example, many plants are moving into an earlier flowering phase due to warmer temperatures, which can disrupt synchronization with pollinator species such as bees. This incompatibility has the potential to reduce food production and threaten the survival of various species. Changes in rainfall also have a significant impact. Areas that experience less rainfall can cause drought, while excessive rain can result in flooding. These extreme conditions threaten the existence of species that depend on the health of certain ecosystems, such as coral reefs which are sensitive to temperature and water salinity. As water temperatures increase, coral reefs experience bleaching, which leads to mass death. Threats to biodiversity are also related to the increasing frequency and intensity of natural disasters. For example, stronger tropical storms can destroy natural habitats and move species far from where they are usually found. The presence of invasive species is also exacerbated by climate change, as new, open habitats make it easier for them to thrive and outcompete local species. Conservation is becoming increasingly difficult in the context of climate change. Efforts to protect endangered species must be increased along with the need to create natural corridors that allow species to move. Existing protected space may no longer be sufficient to support migratory species. Adaptation and mitigation of these impacts are important so that the ecosystem can function optimally. The impacts of climate change are not limited to individual species, but also disrupt food webs and larger ecosystems. Losing one or more species can have a serious domino effect, destabilizing ecosystem structures and reducing ecosystem services important to humans, such as providing clean water, pollination, and climate regulation. Given all these impacts, coordinated action to deal with climate change is very important. Governments, non-governmental organizations and communities need to work together to implement policies that support carbon emission reduction, habitat conservation and public education about the importance of biodiversity. Biodiversity is the foundation of life on Earth; preserving them is not only a responsibility, but also an urgent necessity for the survival of humans and the planet.
