Many poker games require the shuffling and dealing of cards by a designated dealer, who is usually a non-player. In some cases, a player takes turns being the dealer for each round of the game. A dealer chip is passed around to indicate who is the dealer for that hand.

Each hand consists of five cards: two personal cards held by the player and four community cards on the table. A player’s goal is to form the best five-card hand, which must include at least three of the cards in his or her own possession and two of the community cards.
